Dream What You Wish For

It was a cool fall night,
I was walking through the willows.
Staring at the moon,
There was just no way I could sleep.
So I’d come outside,
To go for a walk.
I still don’t know why,
But I began to think.
I thought about my life,
And about all the places.
Everywhere I’d been,
And where I wanted to go.
Walking in the darkness,
Thinking of everything.
My thoughts drifted slowly,
And I began to see.
I could see you there,
Standing when I’d fallen.
Giving me your hand,
Helping me back up.
And I could see you there,
Soothing when I was hurting.
I didn’t know how,
But it just came to me.
You were always there,
No matter what I’d done.
You stood there,
Through the thick thin.
And I could finally see,
What I thought of you.
I knew from that moment,
Standing in the willows.
That I cared about you,
It was something I couldn’t overlook.
I knew what I wanted,
But the wind chilled me deeply.
I kept thinking of you,
And all you are.
I knew that I could love you,
Like no one I’ve ever loved.
I could hold you tight,
And keep you in my arms.
And walking through the night,
My mind overtook me.
The wind that chilled me,
Couldn’t get to me.
You were right there,
As you always had been.
Waiting for me close,
Never far away.
I longed to reach out,
And hold you in my arms.
I know some things in life,
Are just meant to be.
So I started back homeward,
Slipping through the willows.
The coyotes they howled,
And the leaves they gently sang.
The wind was not a burden,
The moon my only friend.
And to this day,
I sometimes can’t sleep.
So I go out for a walk,
Deep into the willows.
Just to calm my nerves,
And humor me.
And when I return home,
You’re standing on the door step.
Waiting there foor me,
You’re so good to see.
Nothing is hopeless,
And everything is hopeful.
Dream what you wish for,
And you just may see.
